Tire war behind Chevy's domination?
The key to Chevrolet's domination of the Nextel Cup tour this season, Toyota's Lee White said, might be a secret tire war between Goodyear and Michelin. With NASCAR barring teams from testing on Goodyears, Nextel Cup teams have turned to rival tire makers, including Michelin, through its B.F. Goodrich division. That has become quite the hot potato in behind-the-scenes talks between NASCAR executives and Goodyear officials.

DEI looks for Dale Jr.'s replacement
Dale Earnhardt Inc. is working on finding a replacement to Dale Earnhardt Jr. for the No. 8 Nextel Cup car. DEI would likely need to either extend its current deal with Budweiser (which said it is reviewing its options in light of Earnhardt Jr.'s departure) or find a new sponsor to lock in a top-tier driver.

The success of Juan Pablo Montoya in NASCAR's top division will bolster Music City Motorplex's efforts to market the sport to a growing Hispanic community in Nashville. That's the theory of Motorplex president Joe Mattioli, who two years ago launched programs designed to draw more Hispanics to the 50-year-old Fairgrounds track.
