NBA: Gold not in question, but legacy of US team is
The gold isn't in question anymore. It never really was, unless Kobe Bryant ate some bad Beijing **** or Dwyane Wade got lost at the Great Wall. We're past that now, anyway. Got over it about the same time LeBron James threw down yet another tomahawk dunk against a Spanish team that seemed bewildered to be in the same building with the American superstars.

NHL: Hull thinks 'terrible' Anaheim is done
Brett Hull, one foot in the crease and the other lodged in his mouth, repeatedly called Anaheim "terrible" while it was defeating the Red Wings on Sunday and moving into position to win the Western Conference championship tonight. According to Hull, Anaheim was terrible and the Red Wings will easily win tonight and prevail in a seventh game at Joe Louis Arena -- where Anaheim is 2-1 in this series.

Golf: Oakmont's 8th hole causing stir
Oakmont already has caused a great stir among the players, and the 107th U.S. Open hasn't even begun. Players who haven't been to the course are painfully aware of the new, expanded eighth hole, which will play 288 yards from the back tee -- the longest par 3 in U.S. Open history. Tiger Woods called it "what ... a 900-yard par 3?"

Auto Racing: Tire war behind Chevy's domination?
The key to Chevrolet's domination of the Nextel Cup tour this season, Toyota's Lee White said, might be a secret tire war between Goodyear and Michelin. With NASCAR barring teams from testing on Goodyears, Nextel Cup teams have turned to rival tire makers, including Michelin, through its B.F. Goodrich division. That has become quite the hot potato in behind-the-scenes talks between NASCAR executives and Goodyear officials.
